Summary

The Vocational Nurse position will be with Surgical and Procedure Care Nursing Service- Gastroenterology. The Vocational Nurse utilizes technical and manual skills under the direction of the Registered Nurse or a licensed Physician in the assigned area. The Vocational Nurse performs a wide range of patient care duties and has the knowledge and skills to carry out nursing and administrative scheduling related assignments for Gastroenterology.

Duties

  • Must adhere to all activities of the position without restriction.
  • Is adaptable to function in pre, intra and post procedural roles and utilizes the most current evidence to direct practice.
  • Roles included but are not limited to carrying out physician orders, monitoring vital signs, assisting physicians during the examination, diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • In coordination with the RN, the LVNs must understand all components of standard of precautions, PPE, patient fall risk precautions, setting up procedural rooms with respect to sterility, cleanliness, availability of functioning endoscopic equipment and supplies.
  • May assist in reprocessing scopes as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of endoscopic principles to include knowledge of patient preparation, patient positioning, assisting with procedures, care and handling of specimens, infection control and sterilizing principles.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.

Requirements

(2) VHA employees who were converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) in implementation of Public Law 98-160, enacted November 21, 1983, and for VHA employees converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7405 in implementation of Public Law 99-576, enacted October 28, 1986; and for their future personnel actions under this authority. The waiver will not apply to persons appointed under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) or 7405 after these conversions. (3) Individuals granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school. See paragraph 4, section C.
