Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Duties
- Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This position is located at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, providing Psychological Services in support of the Mental Health Care Line.
- The incumbent provides professional consultation pertaining to human behavior, determining the reasons for that behavior and predicting and/or modifying the behavior.
- The incumbent works individually or as a member of a multi disciplinary treatment team to provide recommendations, and/or treatment plans concerning psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention.
- Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performs psychological and neuropsychological assessment, evaluation and treatment of patients with problems of cognitive deficits, personality, emotional adjustment or mental illness.
- Performs psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions.
- Performs neuropsychological testing, clinical interviews, and observation, assesses intelligence, behavior and personality variables.
- Plays a major role in differential diagnosis of functional and organic disorders.
- Administers a wide variety of group and individual psychological tests including neuropsychological instruments.
- Administers and interprets neuropsychological test batteries.
- Provides advice to other staff professionals in an attempt to promote and preserve a therapeutic environment for individual patients.
- Provides advice regarding appropriate staff responses toward a patient or specific environmental factors that will stimulate more self reliance, reduce anxiety or achieve more socially adaptable behavior patterns.
- Determines when reassessment is appropriate and adjusts treatment plan accordingly.
- Serves as expert psychological resource for the multidisciplinary team and recommends adjustments to other professional staff's relationship with patients or devises programs that employ new or unique techniques to ensure a therapeutic environment.
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

- Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
- When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
- Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
- Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Requirements

Creditable Experience: Current Professional Psychology Practice. To be creditable, psychological work experience can be obtained through paid or non-paid employment providing psychological work or through participating in a supervised postdoctoral psychology training program (i.e., fellowship or residency). Psychological work experience must have occurred after the doctoral degree was obtained and must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with current professional psychology practice. “Professional psychology practice” includes but is not limited to the following psychology-oriented job duties: providing professional clinical services, conducting research, carrying out education and training activities, carrying out program evaluation activities, clinical consultation, supervision and administration. Quality of Experience.
Experience is only creditable if it is post-doctoral experience as a professional psychologist directly related to the duties to be performed. Qualifying experience must also be at a level comparable to or exceeding professional psychology experience at the next lower level. Part-time Experience. Part-time experience is creditable according to its relationship to a full- time workweek.
For example, a psychologist employed 20 hours per week, or on a half time basis, would receive one full-time workweek of credit for each two weeks of service. Post-Doctoral Degree Fellowships. Postdoctoral fellowships or residencies are training programs in an advanced area of clinical practice. Training as a fellow or resident is considered to be creditable experience on a year-for-year basis.
