About the Position: This position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Nursing Pediatric Unit in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Duties
- Perform professional nursing duties in the care of hospitalized pediatric patients according to the Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and the Standards of Pediatric Nursing Practice.
- Review prescribed medical orders and clarifies prescribed orders, as needed; implements the medical orders as prescribed.
- Prepare pediatric patients for medical, surgical and/or diagnostic procedures; provides nursing care to pre and post-operative, acute and chronically ill patients.
- Utilize medical devices and equipment, such as but not limited to, resuscitation devices, feeding tubes and pumps, intravenous machines, nasal and gastric suction devices, and hyper/hypothermia cooling and warming equipment.
- Administer, handle, and monitor chemotherapy agents to pediatric hematology/oncology patients to ensure safe, effective delivery of prescribed treatment regimens.
- Provide health teaching and discharge planning based on current scientific knowledge, research, epidemiological principals and the family’s health beliefs and practices.
- Perform administrative charge nurse responsibilities while providing primary nursing care to an appropriate number of patients.
- Distribute patient workload evenly taking into consideration overall clinical status, nursing care hours, acuity/ complexity level of the patient, scope of practice, and verified skill sets for the nursing staff.
- Administer medications and treatments via multiple routes of administration, such as the oral, optic, ocular, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, parenteral and enteral methods.
- Implement and evaluate the nursing care plan in order to achieve the desired outcomes.
