This is a Direct Hire Solicitation About the Position: This position is located in the Hematology/Oncology/Chemotherapy Research Department at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
- Providing specialized professional nursing care to critically ill hematology and oncology patients according to patient's evolving condition.
- Executing physician orders and assisting health care providers with special procedures and treatments needed to carry out patient's care plan.
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy and other medications.
- Reviews appropriate laboratory values and diagnostic tests and acts accordingly to notify physicians to hold, modify or continue treatment.
- Make prompt, appropriate responses and adjusts/stops infusion and intervenes with emergency drug administration as necessary in response to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Provide independent/assessment based comprehensive nursing without specific instructions to address underlying co-morbidity affecting treatment such as cardiac/pulmonary conditions, renal dysfunction and diabetes, chemotherapy or treatment regimen.
- Educating patients and family members to understand their condition and maintain self-care and health maintenance.
- Responsible for setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment, both therapeutic and diagnostic; identifying malfunctioning equipment and taking appropriate action.
