Summary

This position is located at the Omaha, Ne VA Medical Center within the Nutrition & Food Services and serves as the primary shift supervisor and will be directly responsible for the supervision of all food service activities and coordinates the activities of the Food Service Workers in the different elements of the Food Service Section.

Duties

  • This position serves as the primary shift supervisor and will be directly responsible for the supervision of all food service activities and coordinates the activities of the Food Service Workers in the different elements of the Food Service Section.
  • Major duties and responsibilities include: Supervising all areas of food production and service, including food preparation, nourishment, tray delivery/retrieval, and addressing food service issues on patient wards.
  • Receiving and inspecting deliveries while requisitioning supplies needed for efficient food service operations.
  • Maintaining inventory of food service supplies and equipment.
  • Directing and ensuring completion of subordinate tasks to meet meal service schedules and assigning work requirements.
  • Preparing, documenting, and discussing employee performance ratings, competencies, and work-related issues.
  • Monitoring and recording employee attendance, tardiness, and providing guidance or adjusting assignments as needed.
  • Establishing operational priorities and making necessary adjustments, especially in emergency situations.
  • Defining and upholding standards for quality and quantity in food production and service.
  • Overseeing and maintaining overall sanitation standards throughout the department.
  • Conducting quality assurance monitors, sanitation reviews, and ensuring proper procedures are followed.
  • Completing required assignments, records, cold prep sheets, and temperature logs.
  • Coordinating and communicating regularly with ward personnel and multidisciplinary team members to resolve food service concerns and assure tray delivery/retrieval.
  • Training and providing ongoing instruction for employees in food service techniques, safety, and equipment care.
  • Guiding and assisting lower-grade employees with tray assembly, diet modifications, and decision-making.
  • Promoting and modeling exceptional customer service and carrying out additional related duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time, 6:00am to 2:30pm, rotating days off, occasional weekend and holiday coverage.
