Summary
The purpose of the position is to perform the overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of highly complex systems of centralized electronic sensing andcontrol at the Syracuse VA Medical Center, in Syracuse, NY.
Duties
- Performs the overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of highly complex systems of electronic sensing and control, including centralized environmental monitoring and control systems (EMCS) that use special purpose, dedicated computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments.
- Plans and lays out work from mechanical, electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders.
- Interprets engineering drawings that combine mechanical, electrical and electronic schematics, logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings; and traces signal flow throughout the system while troubleshooting malfunctions of complex systems.
- Creates electrical and control schematics as required for development of new custom control and monitoring needs and points of operation.
- Performs pretest, operational (functional), and final testing; final tuning; alignment; and/or calibration of highly complex electronic systems, components, and/or subassemblies.
- Conducts operational tests of complex equipment and systems to ensure proper operation.
- Operates Energy Management Control System (EMCS), laptop computers, interface devices, and hand microprocessors, in order to monitor the program, trend data, modify, schedules, reset, and analyze problems for variable frequency drive motors, air quality sensors, economizer control systems, limit switches, pneumatic function modules, network controllers, variable air volume controls, dampers, valve actuators, and digital input controller for temperature, flow status, configuration, and staging of HVAC systems for HVAC technicians.
- Performs preventive maintenance on electronic control systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and calibration.
- Drives upgrades to the control systems of the building infrastructure.
- Implements directed engineering modifications to physical plant equipment and systems.
- Performs new plant and component acceptance testing along with commissioning of new/renovated construction and retro commissioning of existing spaces in accordance with ASHE, AHRAE, CME & VA Design guides and conferring with engineering control personnel for acceptance testing verification criteria.
- Incumbent traces out circuits from drawings and interprets operation sequencing in the control system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
