This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The selected applicant’s duty station will be in Washington D.C. or Albuquerque, NM or Lakewood, CO.

Duties

  • As Cartographic Technician, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to: Responsible for the preparation of base maps, segment maps and township plats of Indian reservations and segments of reservations.
  • Compile materials from sketches, surveyor's filed notes, plats of survey, land records, metes and bounds surveys, aerial photographs, right-of-way plats of records and quadrangle sheets.
  • Determine the correct land descriptions and status of the lands which involved extensive research and examination.
  • Digitizes cartographic data, which includes, but is not limited to, landscape features, ownership type symbolization, rights-of-way, and geographic coordinates.
  • Plots intricate metes and bounds description appearing on incoming legal instruments to determine the accuracy and location of the land in relation other tracts.
  • Establish, organize, and maintain a source materials library.
  • Prepare special reports for management.
  • Consult with subject matter expert to develop deadlines and projects.
  • Consult with personnel from regional branches, agencies and private, tribal, Federal and State representatives to reach agreement on plans and schedules for production of products.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
