Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy & submit your EDRP application within 4 months of appointment.
Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Duties
- DUTIES- Incumbent will work as an independent physician provider in the Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Section within the Medicine Service line.
- They will provide medical care in the spectrum of their field of board eligible/board certified expertise in all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient care.
- The incumbent will be a member of Pulmonary/Critical Care Section/Medical Service and will participate in patient care, teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities of the Division, as assigned.
- The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: (1) Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in areas of personal expertise in the outpatient pulmonary and/or sleep clinics as well as in the inpatient wards and Intensive Care Unit (NOTE: basic sleep disordered breathing/OSA management competency is expected, but more advanced sleep disorder management can be evaluated by board certified sleep medicine providers).
- (2) The Physician will triage and evaluate consultations for inpatient and outpatient pulmonary, critical care, and sleep subspecialty.
- (3) They will obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order, and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients.
- (4) The incumbent will coordinate medical management and care within their discipline with Primary Care providers and other Medical/Surgical services and personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system.
- (5) Provide on-call services for the section as assigned.
- Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation (6) Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level.
- (7) Incumbent will perform administrative tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to peer reviews, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine/Chief of Staff/ELT (8) Participate in the educational programs for section personnel as well as the medical staff.
- (9) Regular attendance of required team meetings’ (10) Qualified/eligible to receive a University of Colorado – Anschutz faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine in order to work with trainees ii) Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization. iii) Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.

Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted.
For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate’s credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
