Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

  • The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) at this level performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results.
  • The technologist will perform routine and specialized work in the Blood Bank, with full technical competency, independence, and minimal supervision.
  • The Blood Bank is designated by the FDA, AABB, and Joint Commission as a full-service laboratory.
  • The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) is responsible for solving problems with testing, instrumentation and adapting new methods or techniques to improve service.
  • The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) is responsible for monitoring quality control systems and providing education for other laboratory and health care professionals.
  • The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) is responsible for providing coverage to the Blood Bank 100% of the time.
  • The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) will be scheduled to work on regular tours of duty (day) with scheduled rotations on weekends (Saturday and Sunday), holidays and on-call coverage as needed.
  • In general, the incumbent performs blood bank and cell flow analyses of blood sample. that require specialized training and experience to obtain results for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • The incumbent must have advanced knowledge of specialized and complex subject matter extending beyond the duties of test performance.
  • The incumbent must have wide latitude for exercising independent judgment.
  • Interacts with physicians to discuss processes and regulations.
  • Possesses an extensive knowledge of the principles, techniques, procedures, instrumentation, and safety precautions in field of medical technology.
  • At most 10% of the time, the incumbent performs duties associated with the quality control management, proficiency testing program, reagent/supplies inventory, and performance improvement program.
  • Work Schedule: M-F, Full-time, 8am
  • 4:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays.
