Summary
This position functions as Chief of Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Section in performance of all professional engineering staff responsibilities involved in the M&O Section, Engineering Service of the VA Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK. Participates in the total operation of the service including all problems and duties involved in the planning for engineering maintenance and operations of buildings, grounds, utilities, and utility plants.
Duties
- Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for multiple trade activities relative to maintenance, repair and replacement to isolate or resolve malfunction or make necessary adjustments and repairs requiring the use of a variety of trades and
- Practices associated with the following systems: painting, carpentry and fleet management.
- Knowledge and experience in extremely diversified fields of medical and hospital equipment.
- Direct activities of the maintenance and operations section for repairs, equipment assemblies and installations.
- Knowledge and experienced in determining when vendor or manufacturer services are needed on one-time basis for assistance.
- Develop, review, and implement preventive maintenance policy, procedure, and schedule for maintenance and operations.
- Review completed work orders for adequacy in terms of the broad objectives for compliance with agency policies and regulations.
- Conduct periodic inspections of assigned work and ensures that safe work practices, code requirements, regulations, and local policies and procedures are followed.
- Interpret, create, and review contract documents and specifications for maintenance and operation projects.
- Determine from shop drawings and blue prints the kind and amounts of material needed for construction and initiate purchase requests.
- Make work assignments and explain the work to be accomplished and interpretation of specifications.
- Determine tools, number and type of staff needed, considering skills and available personnel to accomplish the work.
- Experience with the use of tools needed in the planning of maintenance and operations of buildings, grounds, utilities, and utility plants.
- Prepare documents to procure proper materials, services, equipment, and tools to accommodate a fully operational section.
- Research parts, material resources and costs to meet the needs of scheduled work and emergencies.
- Review progress of work assignments, such as manpower needs, quality of work, costs and material needs.
- Prepare documents to procure proper materials for repairs and maintenance.
- Use measurement instruments to plan and estimate material needs for projects.
- Familiar with the use of measurement instruments for the overall planning and direction of all maintenance and operation activities.
- Use measurement instruments to make repairs and improve tasks for both routine and emergencies.
