Summary

This position is located in Social Work Service of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. The duties and responsibilities are carried throughout the HealthCare System including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the services.

Duties

  • The Senior Social Worker is assigned to the Housing and Urban Development VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program.
  • HUD-VASH is an intensive case management program for chronically homeless veterans aimed at providing psychosocial services to Veterans while preparing for and residing in stable housing through HUD's Housing Choice Voucher Program.
  • The Senior Social Worker is responsible for collaborating closely with Veterans and Veteran families experiencing homelessness and VA and non-VA stakeholders to work towards obtaining and sustaining permanent housing.
  • The Senior Social Worker performs program responsibilities including but not limited to: in home visits, telephone contacts, virtual consultations, clinical assessments, annual evaluations, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical case management services for Veterans in the program.
  • The role involves delivering direct clinical care, psychotherapy, evidence-based services, and interventions for complex Veteran cases.
  • The Senior Social worker also is responsible for clinical supervision and consultative support for frontline staff.
  • Duties for the position may include but are not limited to: Perform specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness.
  • Incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice in the HUD VASH program.
  • Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with polytrauma injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, and other serious disorders.
  • Offer consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills.
  • Perform work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs.
  • Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component.
  • Provide in-service training to Social Work Service staff, to staff from other disciplines, and to students and volunteers as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
