Summary

The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.

Duties

  • The Nurse Manager (CNM) for Hemodialysis, is accountable for the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by the nursing staff for the assigned area on a 24-hour basis.
  • The CNM is responsible for contribution to the establishment and implementation of nursing standards.
  • As a nursing leader, the CNM uses appropriate consultation with experts of each discipline he/she supervises to ensure that practice and performance issues are addressed and resolved.
  • Position may entail other duties as assigned.
  • The CNM will ensure a safe environment of care to include oversight of properly functioning equipment and availability of supplies, efficient quality assessment and performance improvement program, and maintenance of standard operating procedures that meet regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.
  • The CNM collaborates and communicates with fellow managers and the care line chief and provides guidance to staff when necessary.
  • The CNM supports frontline staff education, competency, coaches/mentors, and provides professional development.
  • The CNM promotes optimal, safe patient care while ensuring appropriate patient flow and responsible resource management.
  • Requirements of the CNM role is the necessary skills to identify, coordinate discipline-specific education, and to provide oversight in all areas of Human Resources.
  • The CNM must have a minimum of 12 months experience in clinical nursing. 6 months or more of experience within the last 3 years providing direct nursing care to dialysis patients in accordance with 42.C.F.R.494.140(b)(1).
  • The following duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all inclusive: -Accountable for the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing, patient care technicians, and Medical Instrument technicians as well as providing direct patient
  • Care, supporting staff needs and promoting a just culture -Is a "resource" to clinical staff regarding competencies and other clinical and administrative activities of the unit -Performs as a staff RN as a backup coverage -Performs infection control
  • Audits regularly and submits reports monthly -Prepares for, reports, and attends facility wide meetings, and QAPI meetings -Comply with all governing standards as required for inpatient and outpatient treatment; main treatment; maintain all required competencies and certifications -Utilize
  • The established nursing process to make recommendations for patient care; evaluate delivery of care and communicate to appropriate facility personnel and any relevant data to the multidisciplinary teams -Facilitate continuity of care
  • Submit required data for IPEC, Dialysis Data Module and others within the SAVAHCS -Cover all duties as back up Peritoneal Hemodialysis duties as needed -Assist proactively with inventory needs; monitor water quality treatment system, culturing, and disinfection
  • Of equipment following all infection control policies -Participate in facility committees -Participate in daily huddle -Precept new staff Work
