Summary

The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Lansing VA Clinic. The LPN will be assigned to a primary care team. This position is part of the Ambulatory Care Nursing Service, and reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the Lansing clinic.

Duties

  • Nurse is a direct caregiver who has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex nursing care assignments and who completes duties and responsibilities which involve performing nonstandard and specialized
  • Practical nursing activities requiring demonstrated skill sufficient to resolve a range of nursing problems.
  • Work is reviewed daily by the RN; however, the LPN works independently at this level and requires little supervision by the RN.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: Demonstrates independent technical judgment, without the need for readily available supervision of their work.
  • Possesses a detailed working knowledge of complex practical nursing skills and procedures.
  • Functions as a leader or co-leader for a specifically identified group of patients.
  • Functions as Charge Nurse, where appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of the healthcare team by participating in planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care using a focused assessment.
  • Functions as preceptor when appropriate.
  • Administers medications via all routes, excluding intravenous.
  • Educates patients and/or family for understanding of orders as documented in CPRS and carries out complex treatments as ordered, monitors patients' response to medication and treatments.
  • Reports changes to providers and RNs and documents effectiveness.
