Summary
You will serve as an Information Technology Specialist (DATAMGT) in the Operations Department (N3) of NAVAVNFCSTCEN.
Duties
- You will apply physical and mathematical relationships to global data sources derived from satellites, radar, remote sensors, and weather stations.
- You will develop new methods for relaying weather forecasts, recommendations, and information to the customer in more meaningful, tactically relevant forms.
- You will lead the design, development, and implementation of software applications and systems to display METOC data in support of watch floor operations and requirements.
- You will produce and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and standard operational procedures.
- You will serve as a meteorological data and applications subject matter expert on a variety of specialized meteorological and oceanographic processing and display systems and internally developed web applications, scripts and utility functions.
- You will analyze and interpret meteorological and oceanographic model output, surface observations, and upper atmospheric observations.
- You will explore means of improving forecast processes and/or to find/create operational efficiencies in the forecast process through a variety of software, integration of meteorology and oceanography systems/data, and automation techniques.
- You will provide expert meteorological advice and recommendations to support decision-making.
- You create, debug, and maintain scripts for the automation of manual functions and processes for METOC systems and applications utilized by the 24/7 METOC Operations Watchfloor.
- You will perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, recovery, and patch management.
- You will implement and enforce security policies to protect data from unauthorized access or breaches.
- You will maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems, processes, and procedures.
- You will stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in database management.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance database operations and efficiency.
- You will provide recommendations on new database technologies and architecture.
Education
GS-11 Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related PLEASE INCLUDE TRANSCRIPT
