Summary
This position is located at a Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Center, Sepulveda Ambulatory Care and Nursing Home or the West Los Angeles Campus. The work includes performing work as a Journeyman Woodcrafter and leading a crew of Journeyman Woodcrafters and Carpenters.
Duties
- Directing the daily unit activity to include: assigning work orders, ordering parts, maintaining parts inventory, inspecting completed work, etc.
- Obtaining information and/or directions from supervisors on improvement projects and other work related issues.
- Maintaining technical knowledge for the building, repair, modification and maintenance of all structures, including sidewalks, parking lots, stairs, shelves, cabinet work, etc.
- Works closely with the Building Maintenance Shop Foreman on all types of new installations, in-house project work, structural maintenance, inspection of contractors' submittals, project blueprints, etc.
- Incumbent inspects all contractors' project work and work sites, and review of new shop equipment submitted by vendors.
- Working alongside other tradesmen to solve problems requiring multiple disciplines.
- Assuring tradesmen follow instructions, perform work in a workmanship manner, and meet assigned deadlines.
- Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
- Making safety and preventive maintenance inspections of all shop equipment, hand tools, and proper use for safe operation.
- Reports to the Maintenance Foremen (Structural Unit Supervisor) for direction and supervision.
- In addition to performing the duties as a journeyman wood crafter, the incumbent must have the ability to lead three or more workers to perform their duties.
