Duties

  • Handle cases that present multiple issues, and the need for more complex and long-term treatment.
  • Use professional knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program.
  • Counsel patients on primary and secondary illnesses; integrates information in clear and concise manner.
  • Make clinical assessments to inform treatment decision-making.
  • Uses specialized treatment techniques for amelioration of substance abuse.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Document case records consistent with clinical standards of care.
  • Develops and implements orientation and training for patients, medical staff, commanders and key unit personnel, supervisors, and in the community.
  • Provides instruction in areas of expertise, to include interviewing, communications, decision-making, problem-solving, and behavioral dynamics.
