Summary

The Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program Coordinator (IPVAP-C) provides clinical evidence-based services, program development and education on intimate partner violence. This position is also responsible for the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder (SCI&D) Program.

  • The specialized training, independent functioning and complex and unpredictable caseload requirements warrant the experience of an Advanced Practice Social Worker.
  • The incumbent must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency.
  • They must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
  • Provides education and in-service training to VAMC employees, Veterans, families and Caregivers.
  • Provides ongoing consultation and support to colleagues regarding IPV assistance.
  • Develops and facilitates support groups (face-to-face or virtually or via telephone line) and educational programs.
  • Distributes educational materials provided by VA, local, state and national IPV organizations.
  • The GS-12 Social Work Program Coordinator performs duties independently, reporting to the SW Supervisor and the Chief of Social Work.
  • Social Work Professional supervision/consultation is of an administrative and professional nature; with SW Leadership providing guidelines as to the general policy and direction of Social Work and the Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program the incumbent coordinates.
  • The social worker is given authority to make his/her own work assignments within the program to which assigned.
  • The social worker is professionally accountable for the quality and quantity of the work.
  • The social worker consults with the Social Work Leadership Team and the Chief of Social Work around complex or unusual situations but is ultimately responsible for decisions and actions taken.
  • Quality of work is monitored through audits, Social Work peer review, and other evaluations as required by Social Worker Qualification Standard GS-185 Veterans Health Administration.
  • The SCI& D Social Worker serves as program coordinator at the GS-12 grade level.
  • The incumbent is administratively responsible for the Beckley VAMC Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder (SCI&D) program.
  • The Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder program provides a full-range of care for all eligible Veterans who have spinal cord injuries (SCI) and spinal cord disorders (SCD).
  • These include both traumatic SCI due to such events as motor vehicle accidents, falls, and acts of violence and Nontraumatic disorders and diseases of the spinal cord to include Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
  • The incumbent will provide an array of clinical services to include but not limited to psychosocial assessment of needs, linkage and referral, brief counseling, discharge planning and psychoeducation.

  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
