Duties

  • Coordinates across directorates and Command Staff element for the acquisition of major items of new technology.
  • Identifies the DoD material acquisition agency, arranging the transfer of funds, assisting with the preparation of the acquisition packages for the Command.
  • Maintains close coordination with USSOUTHCOM Science Advisors and CAG Innovation Cell to ensure that JIATF South’s technology initiatives are in sync with those of USSOUTHCOM and the USSOUTHCOM POM/Budget.
  • Advocates and implements government-owned and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions, obviating license fees and proprietary information constraints.
  • Establishes/approves budget requirements of the directorate based on anticipated workload and production capability.
  • Serves as consultant for scientists, academia and engineers in government and private research organizations.
  • Provides advice on asymmetric warfare, sensor and platform systems and their use, and for information concerning the various projects and studies being conducted to improve systems and techniques
  • Supervises and directs the work, sets the priorities, and manages the performance of a staff of military and civilians through in Operational Demonstration and Evaluation Support, Implementation, and Development and Integration Divisions.
  • Provides training, approves leave, and advises subordinates.
  • Exercises recommended actions for a full range of personnel actions (e.g., suspensions, removals, grievances, incentive awards).
  • Monitors JIATF South and USSOUTHCOM current operations and future C-TOC campaign and contingency plans.
  • Directs the actions of and provides program management guidance to assigned developmental laboratories executing ongoing development programs under the cognizance of the Director.
  • Advises the Director on technical developments relating to the future of asymmetric warfare.
  • Identifies to the senior staff critical operational problems C-TOC operations, solved by applying technical solutions available through Research, Development, Testing and Evaluation channels.

This position has an individual occupational requirement for the following professional series General Engineer, 0801.
