  • Delegate and supervise basic nursing care if licensed practical nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel.
  • Provide urgent and emergent care to patients with acute and/or chronic medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions.

  • Focus on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction.
  • Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments.
  • Seek guidance in how to improve care provided to patients and families.
  • Bring principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills.
  • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing care.
  • Assess the patient by collecting pertinent data or information, including triage of patients based on the five-level triage system to prioritize patients that require more immediate care.
  • Use the assessment data to determine diagnoses, problems, or other concerns.
  • Identify expected outcomes to develop a collaborative and individualized plan for each patient.
  • Implement the plan, including care coordination, health teaching, and health promotion.
  • Evaluate the progress toward achieving the expected goal and outcomes and adjust the plan as necessary.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
