Podiatrist (Surg Adv Rft/Ank)

Summary

This full-time, Title 38 position is responsible for providing Podiatry care to veterans. This includes, but is not limited to, diagnosing, treating, and managing various podiatric conditions and injuries. The successful candidate will also participate in resident and student training.

Duties

• VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
• Duties: Assures that a high degree of quality patient care is provided at all times.
• Independently exercises creativity in solving problems without direct supervisory guidance to meet the varying needs of patients while under care in the Podiatry Clinic.
• Exercises independent professional judgment in diagnosing the full range of complex Podiatric conditions as well as planning and executing the necessary treatment programs to meet complex and frequent changes in treatment objectives.
• Refers, when indicated, patients with multiple health problems to other providers within the facility and the VISN.
• Consults with physicians and others, when requested, to augment the care of their patients as it relates to emergent and traumatic conditions as well as podiatric manifestations of systemic conditions.
• Utilizes the general clinical privileges which include: ordering diagnostic tests as appropriate, writing prescriptions for medications or other items on the hospital formulary, hospitalize patients within the VISN as appropriate and discharge patients from outpatient care if it is determined that care is no longer required.
• Travel duties to regional CBOC locations to provide podiatry care to veterans Support, manage and provide preventative care to our veterans through our PAVE Program (Prevention of Amputation in Veterans Everywhere).
• Manage and support our remote temperature monitoring program.
• A program that helps to detect and alert podiatry providers when Level 3, high risk diabetic and peripheral vascular disease patients are having foot problems.

Requirements

All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period.
